West Indies spinner Sunil Narine bids adieu to his international cricket career. The 35-year-old player confirmed this information through a post on his Instagram page. He also stated that he would continue playing franchise cricket worldwide, indicating his participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Narine came into the spotlight during the 2011 Champions League T20 and made his international debut for West Indies the same year. He played only six Test matches and claimed 21 wickets. After making his Test debut in 2012, he played his last match in this format in 2013. Narine played a crucial role in West Indies winning the T20 World Cup in 2012. In 2012, he had a spectacular season in his debut IPL appearance. He was named Player of the Tournament. Narine contributed to the Kolkata Knight Riders' championship win.

In November 2015, Narine was suspended from international cricket due to his bowling action. He was allowed to bowl again in April 2016, but he had limited success in representing West Indies in only a few matches after that. He last played T20 cricket for West Indies in August 2019. Despite displaying good form in the IPL, Narine was not selected for the 2021 T20 World Cup due to fitness concerns.

Narine made his first ODI appearance against India in 2011. He debuted in T20 cricket against Australia in 2012. He claimed 92 wickets in 65 ODIs and 52 wickets in 51 T20 matches. Narine said, "It has been more than four years since I last played for West Indies, but today I am publicly announcing my retirement from international cricket. I am not a person who speaks much in public, but there are some individuals who have consistently supported me throughout my entire career and have helped me realize my dream of representing West Indies, and I express my deep gratitude to you.
