Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has put an end to speculations regarding the possible shift of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In response to reports suggesting a potential move due to the General Elections in India, Shah confirmed to Cricbuzz that the IPL will indeed be held in India as planned.

Dismissing any notions of moving the league overseas, Shah stated firmly, "No, it won't be moved overseas." This clarification comes amidst rumors that some IPL teams had requested a relocation of matches because of the upcoming elections, with discussions allegedly held within BCCI circles about the feasibility of hosting the latter part of the IPL in the UAE.

With the Election Commission of India announcing the dates for the general elections, scheduled in seven phases from April 19 to June 4, the BCCI is now expected to release the full IPL schedule. Currently, only the dates for the first 21 games, scheduled from March 22 to April 7, have been revealed. The IPL is set to commence with a match between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer's participation in the IPL has been confirmed as he left for Kolkata to join his Kolkata Knight Riders teammates. There were doubts initially regarding Iyer's availability due to back pain, which led to his absence from the final two days of the Ranji Trophy in Mumbai. However, scans have indicated no significant issues, allowing him to be part of KKR's squad from the beginning of the tournament.

KKR is scheduled to kick off their season with a home game against SunRisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens on March 23. Iyer's inclusion adds depth and strength to the team's batting lineup, boosting their prospects for a successful campaign in IPL 2024.
