FILE

India's star spinners Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja made history during the second Test against the West Indies in Port of Spain. The duo became only the second pair from India to secure 500 Test wickets while playing together, a feat accomplished on Day 4 of the Trinidad Test.

Ashwin, with his masterful off-spin, claimed two crucial wickets of Kraigg Brathwaite and Kirk McKenzie, reaching the significant 500-wicket mark for the pair. Previously, the legendary duo of Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh was the only Indian combination to achieve this milestone, claiming 501 wickets in their partnership during the 1990s and 2000s.

Currently, in the Ashwin-Jadeja partnership, the off-spinner has secured 274 wickets, while the left-arm spinner, Jadeja, has contributed with 226 scalps.

Indians with the most wickets in partnership -

501 in 54 Tests - Anil Kumble (281) and Harbhajan Singh (220)

500 in 49 Tests* - R Ashwin (274) and Ravindra Jadeja (226)

368 in 42 Tests - Bishan Bedi (184) and BS Chandrasekhar (184).

With this historic achievement, the Indian spin duo joins an exclusive club of prolific bowlers who have left a lasting impact on the game. As the second Test enters its final day, India holds the advantage with two crucial wickets in their defense of 365. However, the West Indies, with 76 runs on the board, remains determined to chase down the target and script a memorable victory on home soil.
