Will Pujara-Umesh be out of Windies tour? Yashasvi in Test and Rinku-Jitesh can get chance in T20

Veteran players Cheteshwar Pujara and Umesh Yadav could be dropped from the team that travels to the West Indies next month for a two-Test series after India's second consecutive defeat in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. The selection committee wants to groom the next generation of players for the tougher times ahead. In such a situation, young batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal and fast bowler Mukesh Kumar are being considered as replacements for Pujara and Umesh.

The Shiv Sunder Das-led selection committee and head coach Rahul Dravid are mulling over a few options before going into the next WTC cycle, which is likely to begin with the series in the Caribbean. It is believed that Pujara and Umesh proved to be the two weak links in this Test championship cycle, who have failed to do much for a long time.

Former national selector Devang Gandhi told PTI – You need to strike a balance between youth and experience. The idea has to be long term and you have to look at the two year test cycle now. I believe Yashasvi Jaiswal is ready for international cricket. He has scored double centuries in Ranji, Irani and Duleep Trophy. ,

Another former national selector, who did not wish to be named, said that since the tour of Bangladesh last December, the BCCI has not conducted any A tour program which is wrong. He said- Look, Umesh is at the last stage of his career. But without a tour schedule, you don't know who is ready. There was a time when we had Mayank Agarwal, Rishabh Pant, Hanuma Vihari, Mohammad Siraj, Navdeep Saini ready for consecutive A tours and shadow series.

Will Rohit play Test cricket for two years?

The date of when KL Rahul will return after surgery is not fixed. Along with this, he is not even in the claim of captaincy. In such a situation, the question arises, will captain Rohit Sharma, given his current form and fitness, continue to play Test cricket for two more years and complete the next Test cycle, when he will be almost 38 years old by then? At the moment this is a big question.

Another question is if Pujara is dropped then who would be better suited as vice-captain in the next one year as West Indies is one Test team against whom a young player can easily start as vice-captain. The former selector said- The problem is that you give Pujara a chance in the Test against the West Indies and if he scores runs then you have to stick with him for one more year because after that there are no Tests till December.

Many cricket experts believe that this is the right time to groom 23-year-old Shubman Gill as the vice-captain. If the team management is looking for an experienced player for this role, then an all format player like Ravindra Jadeja can prove to be a perfect option. However, Devang Gandhi also said that a player like Ravichandran Ashwin can also prove to be perfect for this role. Apart from this, Ajinkya Rahane can also be the right choice.

India will have a month-long tour of the West Indies. The tour will start from July 12 with a two-match Test series. After this, the team will play a series of three ODIs and five T20 matches, in which a team of young players can take the field under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya. Players who perform well in IPL can get a chance in this team.

T20 International is one such format where the selectors will have no dearth of options when it comes to team selection. It is almost certain that Hardik Pandya will be the captain in the T20 World Cup to be held in America and West Indies next year. Players who performed brilliantly in IPL can get a chance in T20 International team. In these players like Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma are almost sure to get a place.

With the return of Rituraj Gaikwad in the team, Jaiswal may get a chance. Mohit Sharma, who took 27 wickets in IPL, can also return to the team. Players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli can be rested in T20s. At the same time, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj can be rested under workload management. Aligarh's Rinku Singh hit five sixes in five balls in the last over against Gujarat while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders.
