Putting an end to months of speculations and if-buts, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced the conduct of the Asia Cup. The six-team tournament will feature four matches in hosts Pakistan and nine matches in Sri Lanka. The tournament will begin on August 31 in the 50-over format, while the final will be played on 17 September. However, the detailed schedule has not been announced yet.

Najam Sethi, Chairman of the Management Committee of PCB (PCB), said on Thursday that he understands the circumstances of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He said that the hybrid model was the best option. Sethi also expressed grief over the Indian team not going to Pakistan during this period.

What did Najam Sethi say?
Najam Sethi said, “Our fans would have liked to see the Indian cricket team play in Pakistan for the first time in 15 years, but we understand the position of the BCCI. Like the Pakistan Cricket Board, BCCI also has to take permission from the government to cross the border. ''''''''

Six teams will be divided into two groups
All six teams will be divided into two groups. The top two teams from both the groups will qualify for the Super Four round. After that the top two teams out of four teams will play in the final, which will be played either in Kandy or Pallekele, Sri Lanka. India, Pakistan and Nepal will be in one group, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan will be in the other group.

These teams will take part:India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Nepal.

The approval of the Asia Cup schedule
means that the Pakistan team will tour India in the ODI World Cup to be held in October-November this year. India's World Cup clash with the arch-rivals is scheduled to take place on October 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the world's largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad.

It is believed
that last month when International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive Geoff Allardice and chairman Greg Barkley visited Karachi to meet Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi. When he had done this, he had put a condition in front of PCB that he would not put any condition regarding participation in the World Cup.

Being the host, it may be allowed to hold four matches of the Asia Cup in Pakistan. Having a tournament without Pakistan means that the broadcaster will pay only half of the fixed amount for the tournament if there is no India-Pakistan match. India are scheduled to have two matches in the tournament and if both the teams reach the finals, there could be a third encounter as well.
