Australia's captain, Pat Cummins, has expressed confidence that the upcoming IPL 2025 mega-auction will not distract his players during the first Test match against India in Perth. The Test series between India and Australia is set to begin on Friday, coinciding with the IPL auction, a major event for players in the cricketing world. Despite this overlap, Cummins believes that his team will remain focused on the game.

Pat Cummins also supported the decision to allow Australian assistant coach Daniel Vettori to attend the IPL auction in Saudi Arabia while the Test series is ongoing. Cummins explained that since most of the players have been part of the auction process before, they are familiar with it and know they cannot influence the outcome during the match. "I don’t think it will be a distraction. As far as I can see, it won’t affect us," Cummins stated.

Despite the looming pressures, including Australia’s past four Test series losses to India, Cummins remains optimistic about his team's chances. "There is always pressure when you play on home soil," Cummins said, acknowledging the strength of the Indian team. He further added that while India poses a strong challenge, the Australian team’s preparation is robust, and they are focused on winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Cummins also spoke about the role of newcomer Nathan McSweeney, who will be stepping into the spotlight after David Warner’s retirement. Cummins emphasized that McSweeney should not try to mimic Warner’s style but instead should play to his natural strengths. "He needs to play his own game and not try to be like David Warner. That’s not his game," Cummins added.
