Meeting with IPL Officials:
Ahead of the 18th season of the IPL, a mega auction will be held this year. During this period, franchises will retain and release players. Before this, franchises have requested three major changes. They want the mega auction period to be extended to five years, the number of players retained to be increased from four to six, and each team to be given at least eight RTM options. However, no final decisions have been made yet.
Benefits of Extending the Mega Auction Period:
The demand to hold the mega auction every five years aims to provide young players with more opportunities to develop. This will benefit uncapped players, allowing them to improve their game. Currently, the mega auction in the IPL takes place every three years.
Changes in RTM Options:
Franchises have also requested changes in the RTM options. They want the number of RTM options to be increased to eight before the mega auction. This would make it easier for teams to retain their existing players by matching the highest bids during the auction.
