T20 World Cup: Is Kohli's Form a Concern? Sunil Gavaskar Supports Virat, Says There's Nothing to Worry About

Virat Kohli's bat has been silent so far, leading to discussions about whether Yashasvi Jaiswal should be sent to open and Kohli should be moved to number three.

Kohli's Performance
India decided to have captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli open the innings in the T20 World Cup, but this strategy hasn't been successful yet. Both batsmen have failed to give India a strong start. Kohli's form has been particularly concerning, having scored just five runs in three matches.

Kohli's Poor Form
Kohli's performance in the T20 World Cup has been disappointing. This is the first time Kohli is opening for India in T20s alongside Rohit Sharma. In the group stage matches, Kohli scored only five runs: one run off five balls against Ireland, four runs off three balls against Pakistan, and a duck against the USA. His T20 record in the USA is not impressive, with just 68 runs in six innings, a strike rate of 97.14, and an average of 11.33.

Gavaskar's Statement
Sunil Gavaskar has urged fans not to worry about Kohli's form. He believes Kohli will make a strong comeback. Speaking on a sports channel, Gavaskar said, "When you play for your country, there is no greater motivation. Kohli has performed brilliantly for India for many years and has won many matches for the country. He needs to understand that these are still early days in the tournament, which is quite long. After the group stage, there will be the Super Eight, then the semifinals, and if everything goes well, the final. Kohli knows he needs to show some patience and believe in himself. Just because he has scored fewer runs in three matches doesn't mean everything is suddenly wrong. There is no need to worry. He will come back strong in the coming days."

Possible Changes in Combination
Despite the Indian opening pair's struggles, it's unlikely that the team management will change the opening combination. India has an extra top-order batsman in Yashasvi Jaiswal, but it's believed that the team management and captain will continue to support Kohli, and he will not drop to number three. Kohli opening allows Rishabh Pant to bat at number three, where he has performed well against Ireland and Pakistan. This setup also allows India to include an additional all-rounder like Shivam Dube in the playing XI. Dube, along with Suryakumar Yadav, put up a match-winning partnership of 72 runs for the fourth wicket against the USA.
