Earlier, on June 12, New Zealand played against the West Indies in the 26th match of the T20 World Cup 2024, where they lost by 13 runs. During that match, Kiwi bowler Tim Southee committed an offense for which he has now been penalized.
What Happened?
New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee was reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. The incident occurred in the 18th over against the West Indies when Southee, after being dismissed, angrily broke a hand sanitizer dispenser while returning to the dressing room. The ICC has now issued a penalty for this act.
Action Based on Umpires’ Complaint
According to the ICC press release, Tim Southee was found guilty of violating Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for players and player support personnel, which relates to the “misuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an international match.” On-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Alex Wharf, third umpire Richard Illingworth, and fourth umpire Michael Gough reported the incident, leading to the ICC’s action. A demerit point has been added to Southee’s disciplinary record.

The 35-year-old New Zealand bowler is in excellent form. In the match against Uganda, he took three wickets, conceding only four runs in his four-over spell, maintaining an economy rate of 1.00. Southee was named Player of the Match for his lethal performance.
