SRH |
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) secured their place in the Indian Premier League (IPL) play-offs on Thursday after their match against Gujarat Titans (GT) was washed out due to rain without a single ball being bowled.
This result made SRH the third team to qualify for the play-offs, following the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), who currently hold the top two spots in the standings.
The abandonment of the match awarded SRH one point, bringing their total to 15 points with one match remaining in the league stage. Their final league game is set against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 19. PBKS has already been eliminated from the play-off contention, giving SRH a relatively easier task to end their league campaign on a high note.
The washout was disappointing for both teams as fans and players alike were eager for the contest. However, for SRH, the point was enough to secure their play-off berth, ensuring they remain in the hunt for the coveted IPL trophy.
The weather disruption also means that Gujarat Titans miss out on the chance to improve their standings and must look forward to their remaining fixtures to secure their play-off position.
Washout effects :
- SRH's playoff spot is now confirmed, and DC is eliminated.
- RCB vs. CSK will be a knockout match with RCB needing to win by 18 runs or within 18.1 overs (assuming a first innings score of 200).
- A win against KKR will secure RR's 2nd-place finish.
- SRH will finish 2nd if they beat PBKS and KKR beat RR afterward (both games are on Sunday).
- CSK can finish second if they beat RCB and both RR and SRH lose their respective games.
