It is anticipated that the Indian selectors will imminently announce the team in the upcoming days. The deadline to submit the provisional team to the International Cricket Council (ICC) is May 1, and the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is likely to convene in Delhi to finalize the 15 players. According to media reports, the selectors will convene a meeting in New Delhi on either April 27 or 28. The Mumbai Indians are scheduled to play against the Delhi Capitals next week on April 27, meaning Indian captain Rohit Sharma will also be in the national capital. Selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar is currently holidaying abroad and will directly travel to Delhi to attend the meeting with his colleagues.
The report claims that these names are certain to be approved. Furthermore, it emphasizes that experience will be prioritized in the selection process. The inclusion of captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav is assured, provided they remain fit to travel to America. However, there is uncertainty regarding Rohit's opening partner, with debates between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill. Yashasvi's poor form in IPL 2024 and Shubman's lackluster performance raise doubts. Discussions also revolve around the possibility of Virat and Rohit opening together, with one of Shubman or Yashasvi kept as a backup opener.
If Virat opens, it creates an opportunity for a power hitter at number four, possibly KL Rahul, Shivam Dubey, or Rinku Singh. Suryakumar Yadav is almost certain to play at number three, while Rishabh Pant is likely to bat at five. Hardik Pandya's form poses a challenge for selectors, as he has not performed exceptionally well in the IPL. A power hitter could also be considered at number six. In this scenario, Jadeja may play at seventh position and Hardik at eighth position. The remaining three spots will be for bowlers, with Bumrah being almost certain to play. A competition between Arshdeep and Siraj is expected for another fast bowler position.
These 20 players can be in the Indian team for the World Cup 2024 (15 probables and five reserve players)
