The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set for a potential change in its main selection committee, with the announcement of an open position for a national selector. Currently led by Ajit Agarkar, the committee consists of five members, and while there is no existing vacancy, it is speculated that a member from the current committee may be replaced.
BCCI has officially invited applications for the selector position, outlining the eligibility criteria of having experience in playing seven Tests and 30 first-class matches. The deadline for applications is January 25th, and interested individuals must submit their applications by 6 pm on the specified date. The shortlisted candidates will then be called for interviews, with the interview date yet to be announced.
Ajit Agarkar currently serves as the chief selector in the committee, accompanied by former opener Shiv Sunder Das, former fast bowler Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola, and former batsman Sridharan Sharath. While Agarkar's position is secure, any other member of the committee may be relieved from their duties.

The spotlight is on Salil Ankola, who represents the West Zone in the selection committee. Since Agarkar also hails from the western region, Ankola might have to step down, creating an opportunity for a new member, possibly from the North region, which currently lacks representation.
Previously, Chetan Sharma held the position of chief selector before resigning due to a sting operation. The ongoing reshuffling comes as the selection committee is in the process of finalizing the team for the remaining three Test matches against England and gearing up for the crucial task of selecting the squad for the T20 World Cup amid the IPL season. The changes are indicative of BCCI's ongoing efforts to ensure a balanced and diverse representation in the selection committee.
