In a disappointing turn of events, the Indian women's cricket team faced their sixth consecutive defeat against England in the T20 format. The second match of the three-match series took place at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, where England secured a comprehensive victory, claiming a 2-0 lead in the series.

Early Setbacks for India:

The Indian innings got off to a shaky start as openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana fell victim to England's bowling attack within the first few overs. Verma's dismissal came at the hands of Charlotte Dean in just the second ball of the match, while Mandhana succumbed to Dean in the fourth over, managing only 10 runs.

Middle Order Collapse:

The middle-order batting failed to revive India's innings, with captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Deepti Sharma, and others unable to make a significant impact. England's Lauren Bell claimed crucial wickets, and the Indian team found themselves all out for a mere 80 runs in 16.2 overs.

England's Dominance:

In response, England's Heather Knight won the toss and opted to bowl first. England chased down the target comfortably, reaching 82 runs in 11.2 overs, securing an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. India struggled to make inroads, with only Renuka Thakur and Deepti Sharma managing to take two wickets each.

Individual Performances:

Jemimah Rodrigues top-scored for India with 30 runs, but her efforts were not enough to salvage the innings. For England, Charlie Dean, Lauren Bell, Sophie Ecclestone, and Sarah Glenn contributed with two wickets each.

Charlotte Dean | Player of the Match:

Really happy with how the game played out, the bowlers around me made it very comfortable and easier for me. In T20 I find it really important not to get stuck bowling the same ball again and again and need to vary the pace and see how the batters react. I have a gut feel on where people are trying to hit me and I plan accordingly. I usually try to target the stumps more often.
Heather Knight | England skipper: A really brilliant game and the crowd was outstanding, you really felt the pressure out in the middle. She (Dean) bowled a lot for us in the powerplay, she also allows us to have that balance in the side and I thought our bowling group bowled really well. I thought it was quite hard for our openers and I thought Renuka bowled really well and the job was to score as many in the powerplay and not lose too many wickets. We have a Test match coming up and we want to win the series 3-0.

Harmanpreet Kaur | Indian skipper:

Another 30-40 runs could have made a huge diifference. Proud of my team, we fought till the last run which is good to see. We always want to play with a positive approach, but unfortunately some of us didn't read the ball well and they also bowled really well and didn't allow us to score freely. After losing early wickets, we were thinking 120, but couldn't do it. But still, our bowlers were ready to take up the challenge and bowled the way we wanted.

Alice Capsey:

It didn't go to plan in the end but important thing was we got along fine and won the series. We are quite excited about playing here, looking forward to going again tomorrow. Charlie Dean was fantastic, she bowled excellently along with Sarah Glenn and Sohpie Ecclestone. Our seamers followed up as well. Half of us were training in Oman and the other half were in Australia playing the WBBL so it was actually nice to get everyone together. Plan is to win tomorrow.

With this defeat, India finds themselves in a challenging position in the T20 series against England. The inability of the batting lineup to put up a competitive total remains a concern for the Indian team. As they head into the third and final match of the series, India will be eager to break the streak and salvage some pride. The team will need a collective effort to overcome the formidable English side and end the series on a positive note. While After suffering a setback in their previous T20I series against Sri Lanka in September, England has made a strong comeback by clinching a series victory against India. This win should provide a significant confidence boost, especially considering the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled to take place in Bangladesh in nine months. While it hasn't been the most auspicious beginning for the Indian head coach, Amol Muzumdar, the home team is eager to secure a win in the final match of the series before gearing up for the Test match next week.
