ICC ODI Rankings: Kuldeep Yadav Climbs Seven Places in Bowlers Rankings; Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi on Top
While Pakistan's performance in the ODI World Cup 2023 may not have lived up to expectations, Pakistani players are making their presence felt in the ICC rankings. Babar Azam maintains his dominance as the king of batsmen, while Shaheen Afridi has become the new number one ODI bowler in the world, surpassing Australia's Josh Hazlewood.
Afridi has delivered spectacular performances for Pakistan in the World Cup and now tops the ODI bowlers' rankings. He and Australia's spinner Adam Zampa share the highest number of wickets in the tournament, each with 16 wickets. Afridi played a crucial role in delivering a victory for Pakistan against Bangladesh, taking three wickets, and claimed the top spot in the ODI rankings with a jump of nine places.
Australia's Josh Hazlewood (second), India's Mohammed Siraj (third), and South Africa's Keshav Maharaj (fourth) hold their respective positions. Kuldeep Yadav (seventh) and Mujeeb Ur Rahman (eighth) have benefited from this situation, marking the first time that Afridi has achieved the number one ranking in any format, and now two Pakistani players hold the top spots in the ODI rankings simultaneously.
In the ODI batsmen rankings, Pakistan's captain Babar Azam is the top batsman. Despite scoring just nine runs against Bangladesh, he remains ahead of India's Shubman Gill by just two points. Babar has amassed a total of 216 runs in seven matches of the World Cup, while Shubman Gill, India's closest competitor, has scored only 104 runs in four innings. Australia's experienced batsman David Warner has moved up to the fourth position in the World Cup with 413 runs, while India's captain Rohit Sharma has climbed to the fifth position with 398 runs in the tournament.
Netherlands' captain Scott Edwards has scored 204 runs in six matches of the World Cup, moving up 11 places to 16th in the ODI batsmen rankings. Bangladesh's captain Shakib Al Hasan has risen to the top of the rankings for ODI all-rounders, and South Africa's Marco Jansen is now ninth among bowlers, while New Zealand's young player Rachin Ravindra has moved up to 17th place.
