World Cup Blow for Australia as Star All-Rounder Glenn Maxwell Benched After Golf Accident, Misses England Clash
Australia's cricket team has been delivering a stellar performance in the World Cup. Starting with two consecutive victories, they made a remarkable comeback, winning the next four matches. They are currently standing at the fourth position in the points table. However, ahead of their upcoming match against England, Australia has been hit with a significant setback. Explosive batsman Glenn Maxwell, who has been in sensational form, fell victim to an accident and will miss the next match.
This crucial match between Australia and England will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Maxwell, who was playing golf on Monday instead of cricket, suffered an injury, which is so severe that he won't be able to participate in the upcoming match. It is estimated that he will need a minimum of eight to ten days to recover fully.
According to ESPNCricinfo, Maxwell's injury occurred while playing golf at the club. His teammate, Steve Smith, shared a picture of them playing golf on social media, where several Australian team players can be seen. Australian coach Andrew McDonald mentioned that Maxwell is honest about his commitment to the game and will make a swift return.
McDonald also stated that it's fortunate Maxwell's injury is not too severe. In such an injury, the situation could have been more serious. There is hope that he will only be sidelined for a single match.
This isn't the first time Maxwell has faced injury concerns. Last year, he was sidelined from cricket for an extended period due to an injury sustained during his friend's birthday party, where he suffered a fractured foot. Despite these setbacks, Maxwell has played explosive innings in this World Cup, including a century off just 40 balls against the Netherlands.
