In a historic showdown at the Wankhede Stadium, South Africa achieved a monumental milestone by posting the highest-ever total against England in One Day Internationals (ODIs). The stage was set for an extraordinary match, with England needing to embark on the second-highest chase in ODIs to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
The foundation for South Africa's record-breaking total was laid by the exceptional partnership between Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen. This formidable duo rescued South Africa from a precarious position after both Aiden Markram and David Miller fell in quick succession. Remarkably, there were still 13.3 overs remaining when Miller departed.
Klaasen, battling not only the opposition but also challenging external factors, displayed remarkable resilience as he smashed his way to a century. The boundaries rained at the Wankhede Stadium, and Klaasen reached his milestone. Meanwhile, Jansen achieved his highest ODI score, contributing significantly to the team's imposing total.
The early phases of the South African innings saw a solid partnership between Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, and Rassie van der Dussen, amassing 121 runs and setting the stage for the explosive finish. Despite their promising starts, none of them managed to convert their innings into substantial scores. England appeared to be making a comeback, but the Klaasen-Jansen partnership thwarted their efforts.
The challenging weather conditions in Mumbai on the day further added to the intensity of the contest. As England prepares to chase, some of their players may find themselves fatigued. South Africa, on the other hand, will be pleased with their performance and eager to capitalize on the cooler conditions when they take the field to bowl.
The upcoming night session may introduce interesting dynamics into the game, with the question of whether the ball will behave differently under the lights. England faces an imposing task ahead as they gear up for the chase.

Reeza Hendricks:
Quite pleased. It was tough in the beginning to find my feet, but happy with the contribution and that partnership with Rassie. Everything happened quickly, got to know it (his inclusion) just 5 minutes before the toss. Needed that partnership (with Rassie) after losing de Kock early. It (Klaasen's knock) was an incredible innings. Was much needed for us as we were under pressure when we lost Markram and Miller in quick succession. We back our bowlers to defend it, need to field well.
