Legendary fast bowler Glenn McGrath is confident that ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah will make a successful comeback after recovering from a back injury. Bumrah, who missed a significant portion of India's matches this year, is set to return during the Ireland T20I series, where he will also lead the Indian cricket team. His presence will be crucial for India in the upcoming ODI World Cup.
During a media interaction at the MRF Pace Foundation academy, McGrath expressed his optimism about Bumrah's return. He believes that the break from cricket would have been beneficial for the fast bowler, as they often need time off to regain strength in their bodies. However, McGrath also acknowledged that the toll on Bumrah's body is due to his bowling action and the effort he puts into each delivery.
McGrath mentioned that he hasn't seen Bumrah bowl yet, so only time will tell how well he has recovered. He emphasized that Bumrah's return to peak form depends on the work he has done during his layoff and whether he has made any adjustments to his bowling action. Nonetheless, McGrath is hopeful that Bumrah's hard work during this period will enable him to return to his previous best.
The former Australian bowler believes that Bumrah's experience and the number of games before the World Cup will allow him to get match-ready. Although being out of the game for eleven months is a considerable time, McGrath remains positive that with some games under his belt, Bumrah will be back in top form before the much-awaited ODI World Cup.
