The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently unveiled the official and comprehensive schedule for the highly anticipated ODI World Cup 2023, marking the first time the tournament will be held entirely in India. The event is scheduled to commence on October 5. Prior to the World Cup, the Asia Cup was also slated to take place in September. However, the schedule for the tournament has been delayed.

According to InsideSport, the reason behind the schedule delay is the inclement weather conditions in Colombo, the intended host venue for a highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan match. The organizers are concerned that the rainy monsoon season might pose challenges to the smooth progress of the match.

"We are currently finalizing some last-minute details. The tentative schedule has been shared with the participating nations, and we expect to release the official schedule this week. The weather conditions in Colombo pose an issue, as rain could affect the India vs. Pakistan match, which we ideally wanted to hold there," disclosed a BCCI official to InsideSport.

Asia Cup Returns to Pakistan after 15 Years -

After much speculation and careful deliberation, it has been confirmed that the Asia Cup 2023 will be held in a hybrid model, with both Pakistan and Sri Lanka serving as host countries. The tournament, featuring a total of 13 teams, will witness thrilling competition as teams from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal vie for the coveted title.

In an official press release issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), it was announced that the Asia Cup will take place from August 31 to September 17. The tournament will comprise 13 exciting ODI matches, with four matches being held in Pakistan and the remaining nine matches taking place in Sri Lanka.

"The 2023 edition will feature two groups, with two teams from each group advancing to the Super Four stage. The top two teams from the Super Four stage will then compete in the final. We eagerly anticipate welcoming fans from across the globe to witness this grand celebration of cricket," the release stated.

As cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the Asia Cup, the ICC and the respective cricket boards are working diligently to finalize the schedule while considering the unpredictable weather conditions in Colombo. The tournament promises to deliver thrilling encounters and showcase the exceptional talents of the participating teams.
