Indian captain Rohit Sharma is currently going through a difficult time. His bat is not working. Meanwhile, news is coming that Rohit can be rested from the West Indies tour. The Indian team for the West Indies tour will be selected on June 27. The Duleep Trophy is starting from Bengaluru from June 28 and it will start a day before that.
India's first match on the tour will be played on July 12 in Dominica. After this, the second Test match will be held in Trinidad. Apart from this, India also has to play three ODIs and five T20 International matches.
The English newspaper Times of India has reported quoting sources that Rohit may be given rest on this tour. According to the news, 'Rohit looked a bit tired during the IPL and the World Test Championship final in England. The selectors want to rest him from some part of the West Indies tour. He will not play either the Test match or the 8-match limited overs series (three ODIs and five T20Is). The selectors will take a decision only after talking to Rohit.
Rohit played a total of 16 matches in IPL 2023 and scored 332 runs at an average of 20.75. At the same time, he scored 15 and 43 in the final of the World Test Championship against Australia at The Oval. There is a possibility that Ajinkya Rahane can be made the caretaker captain. Rahane made a great comeback in the WTC final. He played innings of 89 and 46 runs. Along with this, there is also a possibility that both pacers Mohammad Siraj and Mohammad Shami will be given rest in the Test series.
Cheteshwar Pujara will also be under pressure to save his place. But if both Rohit and Virat are rested then Pujara can get a place. India is starting the 2023-25 phase of the World Test Championship with the West Indies tour.
