In a tragic three-train crash, at least 288 persons were killed and approximately 803 were injured. The Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, and a cargo train were all involved in the disaster.
One train slammed with the other so fiercely that carriages were lifted high into the air, twisting and then bursting off the tracks. Another carriage had been thrown completely onto its roof, smashing the passenger compartment. According to railway officials, around 3,400 passengers were traveling aboard two trains.
