In historic move, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the official schedule for the upcoming Men's ODI World Cup 2023, which will be hosted by India in its entirety. This marks the first time India will solely host the prestigious tournament, having previously co-hosted it on three occasions.
Scheduled to take place from 5 October 2023 to 19 November 2023, the 13th edition of the Men's Cricket World Cup had its original dates shifted due to the global impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Unlike the previous joint-hosted events, this World Cup will feature only ten participating teams, eight of which have already qualified. The remaining two teams will be determined through the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 Qualifiers.
Embracing the round-robin format, the tournament promises intense competition as teams vie for the ultimate prize. Notably, arch-rivals Pakistan and India are set to face off in a highly anticipated match at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Pakistan will begin their campaign by playing their initial two matches against teams emerging from the Qualifiers.
India's previous experience as a co-host includes sharing responsibilities with Pakistan in 1987, West Pakistan and Ceylon in 1996, and Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in 2011. However, the upcoming edition will see India taking center stage as the sole host nation, showcasing their capability to successfully organize a global cricketing event.
Cricket enthusiasts and fans worldwide eagerly await the Men's ODI World Cup 2023, as it promises to deliver thrilling encounters and memorable moments throughout the tournament. With India's rich cricketing history and passion for the sport, the stage is set for a truly remarkable showcase of cricketing excellence.
