ICC has announced the prize money for the World Test Championship. This time around Rs 13.22 crore will be given to the team that becomes the champion. Whereas, the losing team will take away around Rs 6.61 crore with them. The final match of the World Test Championship 2021-2023 season will be held at the Oval in England from June 7. The teams of India and Australia will be face to face in the final.
The prize money was the same in the previous season of the World Test Championship as well. In the 2019-2021 cycle, Indian team got Rs 6.61 crore and champions New Zealand got Rs 13.21 crore for losing the final. New Zealand won the final against India by eight wickets. This time India and Australia have made it to the finals and have secured a prize money of at least Rs 6 crore.
South Africa, the third-ranked team in the ICC Test rankings, will be given around Rs 3.72 crore and England, the fourth-ranked team, will be given around Rs 2.9 crore. The Sri Lankan team was a contender for a place in the first final, but in the end this team finished in fifth place. The Sri Lankan team will be given around Rs 1.65 crore. Around Rs 82.70 lakh will be given to each team that finishes between sixth to ninth position. New Zealand (sixth), Pakistan (seventh), West Indies (eighth) and Bangladesh (ninth).
Indian players have reached England for preparation
Many important players of the Indian team have reached England for preparation. The playoff matches are going on in IPL 2023 and so far seven teams have been eliminated from the tournament. The players included in these teams have left for England. At the same time, the players of the teams playing the final and the second qualifier will leave for England on 30 May. At present, Mohammad Siraj, Ravichandran Ashwin, Akshar Patel and all-rounder Shardul Thakur have reached England along with Virat Kohli. The teams of all these players did not reach the playoffs. Coach Rahul Dravid and support staff are also in London along with the players. Pujara is already playing county cricket and is in England.
Captain Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Mohammed Shami, Shrikar Bharat and Ajinkya Rahane are among the players who will go to England after the playoffs.
