Expansion

More than a year has passed since Rahul Dravid took over as the coach of the Indian cricket team. One of the most respected batsmen during his playing days, Dravid's appointment as the head coach took place in November 2021 when his former team-mate and captain Sourav Ganguly was the BCCI president. A lot was expected when Dravid took over the reins of the team, but India could not progress past the semi-final round in the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Now former BCCI president Ganguly has given a statement on Dravid's performance as coach. Former BCCI President said- He has done very well except T20 World Cup. The team then (2022) also went to the semi-finals and was just one match away from the final. He will do well. You have to give them time. He has spent just one year with the team. That's a short time for a coach. He will transform this team. You can see Shubman Gill emerging as a very good batsman and you will see a few others developing as well. There is Surya (Suryakumar Yadav), who has done well for the team in the T20 format. So, you have to give Dravid some time. He will do well.

Ganguly also spoke about how the game of cricket has evolved over the years. He said- Cricket has changed a lot in the last few years. Not just cricket, every sport has changed. Cricket has become financially strong. Even its quality has improved. I never knew that quality and finance could go hand in hand. Earlier the great Sunil Gavaskar used to bat without wearing a helmet against the West Indies legends.

Ganguly said- Now India goes to countries like Australia, South Africa and England several times a year. Look at the Australian team. They are not even playing warm-up matches before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. This is because they are familiar with Indian pitches. In my time I used to go to Australia once in seven-eight years.
