Last IPL Match Against Rajasthan
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik played his last IPL match against Rajasthan Royals on May 22, 2024. Following the match, Bangalore players gave him a guard of honor. Virat Kohli and other teammates embraced him and wished him well for the future. In this season, Karthik scored 174 runs in 15 matches at a strike rate of 187.35, including two half-centuries.
Karthik’s IPL Career
Dinesh Karthik’s IPL career includes a second stint with RCB. In 2015, Bangalore purchased him for ₹10.5 crore, but his performance with the bat was below expectations, scoring only 141 runs in 11 matches. However, he made a strong comeback as a finisher in the 2022 season, scoring 330 runs at a strike rate of over 180, which earned him a spot in the ODI World Cup squad. Karthik has also played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL.
Karthik concluded his IPL career with 4842 runs in 257 matches, including 22 half-centuries. Over his 17-year illustrious IPL career, he represented RCB, Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions, and Kolkata Knight Riders. In the current season, he scored 326 runs in 15 matches at a strike rate of 187.36.
Dinesh Karthik’s International Career
Dinesh Karthik debuted in international cricket three months before MS Dhoni and was included in the 2007 World Cup squad, though he didn't get a chance to play in any match. He was initially considered as a backup for Dhoni. Karthik did not make it to the 2011 and 2015 World Cup squads but was included in the 2023 ODI World Cup as a finisher, though he couldn't perform significantly with the bat. Throughout his 15-year cricket career, Karthik experienced periods of being in and out of the team. He scored 1025 runs in 26 Test matches, 1752 runs in 94 ODIs, and 686 runs in 60 T20 internationals at a strike rate of 142.61. Notably, Karthik does not have a century in any format of international cricket, apart from Test cricket.
