David Johnson Dies: Cricket World in Mourning as Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, and Others Pay Tribute

The cricket world is in mourning following the death of former Indian cricketer David Johnson. Many prominent figures have expressed their sorrow and paid tribute to him. Sachin Tendulkar remembered Johnson as a lively person who never gave up on the field. Johnson passed away on Thursday.

David Johnson, aged 52, who played two Tests for India in 1996, died after falling from the fourth-floor balcony of his apartment in Bengaluru. Local police are investigating to determine if it was a case of suicide. Tendulkar wrote on Twitter, "Deeply saddened by the passing of my former teammate, David Johnson. He was full of life and never gave up on the field. My thoughts are with his friends and family."

The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) also expressed grief over their former cricketer's demise. Johnson played 39 first-class and 33 List A matches, taking 125 and 41 wickets, respectively. In a statement, the KSCA said, "David Johnson, with a big heart, will be dearly missed. His passing is a significant loss to Karnataka and Indian cricket. The President, management committee members, executive committee, and all KSCA staff extend their condolences to his family and loved ones."

Former Indian bowler and Johnson's state team colleague Venkatesh Prasad and Anil Kumble also paid their tributes on social media. Prasad tweeted, 

"Shocked and sad to hear about the passing away of David Johnson. Heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. Om Shanti."

Kumble wrote,

 "Saddened to hear the passing of my cricketing colleague David Johnson. Heartfelt condolences to his family. Gone too soon 'Benny'!"

Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir expressed his sorrow, writing, 

"Saddened by the passing away of David Johnson. May god give strength to his family and loved ones."

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah also paid tribute, saying, 

"Deepest condolences to family and friends of our former Indian fast bowler David Johnson. His contributions to the game will always be remembered."

Former Indian batsman and coach VVS Laxman said, 


"Saddened to hear the news of David Johnson's passing. May god give strength to his family and friends. Om Shanti."

Mayank Agarwal, a batsman for India and Karnataka, tweeted, 

"Saddened by the passing of David Johnson, who made a significant contribution to Karnataka cricket. May god give strength to his family and loved ones. Om Shanti."

Virender Sehwag expressed his condolences, saying,

 "Very sad to hear about David Johnson’s passing. Condolences to his family. Om Shanti."

Former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha tweeted, 


"Very sad to hear about David Johnson’s passing. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Om Shanti."
