During Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2024 season, a notable absence was observed as captain KL Rahul did not appear for the toss. Instead, stand-in captain Nicholas Pooran took charge, sparking initial concerns about Rahul's fitness. However, Pooran clarified that Rahul's absence from the toss was a precautionary measure, and he would participate in the match as an Impact Player.
Rahul, who recently returned to action after recovering from a quadriceps injury sustained during the Test series against England, has been carefully managed by the LSG management. Pooran's announcement at the toss reassured fans that Rahul's absence was not due to another injury but rather a strategic decision to give him a break in the demanding IPL tournament.
"KL is coming back from injury, and we're looking to give him a break in such a long tournament, but he'll play as an impact player today," stated Pooran, shedding light on LSG's approach towards managing Rahul's workload.
