In the fourth match of the ongoing ODI World Cup in India, South Africa stunned the cricketing world by smashing a record-breaking score against Sri Lanka. In a spectacular batting display, South Africa managed to score a massive 428 runs, losing only 5 wickets in their 50 overs. This feat marked the highest score ever recorded in the history of the ODI World Cup, surpassing the previous record held by Australia, who had scored 417 runs in 50 overs against Afghanistan during the 2015 World Cup.

The South African innings witnessed three centuries, a historic first for the ODI World Cup. Quinton de Kock led the charge with a brilliant 100 runs to his name. He was joined by Rassie van der Dussen, who scored a magnificent 108 runs, and Aiden Markram, who set a new record by achieving the fastest century in the tournament's history, taking just 49 balls to reach the milestone.

This stunning performance not only secured South Africa's position at the top of the list of teams scoring 400 or more runs in a World Cup match but also marked the third occasion in the World Cup history that South Africa had scored over 400 runs. Their previous 400+ scores came in the 2011 World Cup against the Netherlands and the 2015 World Cup against the West Indies.

The South African team's remarkable batting display was led by captain Temba Bavuma, who was dismissed early with only eight runs to his name. However, the partnership of Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen, contributing 204 runs for the second wicket, laid the foundation for the record-breaking total.

This record-breaking performance not only secured South Africa's position in the history books but also highlighted the team's potential in the current ODI World Cup. As the tournament unfolds, cricket enthusiasts around the world are eagerly awaiting more thrilling performances and record-breaking moments on the field.
