Venkatesh Prasad Sparks Controversy with Tweets on BCCI and Clashes with Tehseen Poonawala over Mohammad Zubair

File : Venkatesh Prasad

Former Indian fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad is in the headlines these days. He constantly keeps asking questions by tweeting on issues related to cricket. However, in the last two days he tweeted on many issues. Because of this, he has become an issue among fans on social media. His anger has become a topic of discussion. On Saturday, Venkatesh had made a post on X (earlier Twitter) regarding the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which had sparked controversy. Later he deleted that post and also gave clarification when asked questions by fans. However, his efforts did not stop here. Now he has clashed with Tehseen Poonawala over Mohammad Zubair, co-founder of fact checking website Alt News.

Let us try to find out why Venkatesh gets so angry... What is the whole matter?

BCCI praised on September 6.

On September 6, BCCI had tweeted and informed that four lakh more tickets will be issued for the World Cup starting in India from October 5. Venkatesh praised this and wrote – I am happy that this is happening. I hope that more and more fans will get tickets and can have a memorable time. However, just two days later, Venkatesh got angry at the Asian Cricket Council headed by Jay Shah

.
Actually, there was a change in the playing conditions of the Asia Cup Super-Four match to be held between India and Pakistan on Friday, September 8. There are to be four teams and six matches in the Asia Cup, but a reserve day was kept only for the India-Pakistan match.

Venkatesh got angry on this. He tweeted and wrote – If this is true then it is completely shameless. The organizers have made a mockery of the tournament and consider it unethical to hold a tournament with different rules for the remaining two teams. In the name of justice it would only be fair if it was canceled on the very first day. May there be more rain the next day and may these malicious plans not succeed.

Questions raised on BCB and SLC?
Venkatesh did not stop here. He even raised questions on the tweets of Bangladesh Cricket Board and Sri Lanka Cricket Board. Actually, Bangladesh Cricket and Sri Lanka Cricket had tweeted that the decision to keep the reserve day was taken jointly by all the member countries of ACC. On this Venkatesh wrote- What was the pressure to accept this unreasonable demand? Then he wrote to Sri Lanka Cricket - When you are not getting reserve days for your own matches, then what was the pressure to agree to this unreasonable demand? Why be so generous to ensure that the India vs Pakistan match is not ruined, even if it means losing your own team's chance to qualify. Can you please explain the exact intention and reason for doing so?

After targeting BCCI regarding the sale of tickets, Venkatesh also alleged scams in the sale of tickets. He questioned the process of ticket sale by retweeting a post on BCCI regarding tickets on X. Actually, the ODI World Cup is being organized in India for the first time since 2011. Fans are very excited about this. BCCI had posted a post on Friday regarding the purchase of tickets and had said that the general sale of tickets for all the matches of the World Cup will start from 8 pm on Friday night. Along with this, he also shared the link for the fans.

Venkatesh then wrote – This is not right. Either the ticketing partners are incapable of handling tickets and traffic or this is another fraud in the name of ticket issuance. Hopefully there will be proper audit and identification of how tickets are sold and to whom and on what platforms. The biggest stakeholders, the fans, cannot be taken away with false assurances.

Tweet on the problems being faced regarding the World Cup:
After this Venkatesh tweeted on the problems being faced due to the World Cup. He wrote- There is no debate or doubt that we have spoiled the happiness we felt about the World Cup. Firstly the unreasonable delay in the program and if that was not enough, the disruption of the five-match schedule. If this was not enough, the completely non-transparent and inefficient ticketing system was only encouraging black marketeers. Hosting the World Cup is a proud moment and should have been a great time for the fans, but these difficulties do not seem unplanned for the fans. It's time we wake up and stop normalizing this disability just because the "yes-sayers" around don't want to speak up. This is a matter of national prestige.

Venkatesh made this demand from BCCI regarding fans.
Venkatesh wrote - We have a good team and are strong contenders for the World Cup, but we need true fans to support the team inside the stadium and their experience so far. It should be much more intuitive and easy than it should be. BCCI needs to do a lot for this. Better than what he has done so far. This is a reflection of the country as a whole and as a nation we should not be disappointed at any cost. After this Venkatesh made a post which created controversy. It was associated with the Board of Control for Cricket in India. He deleted it and also gave a clarification when the fan asked the reason.

Controversial comment about BCCI, then deleted
Venkatesh had written on X on September 9, "A corrupt arrogant person snatches away the hard work of an organization which is generally not corrupt and puts the stamp of corruption on the entire leadership." . Not only at the small level but also at the big level.'' This post of Venkatesh started being linked to BCCI. He had recently raised questions regarding the ticket sales of the World Cup and demanded BCCI to fix everything. Venkatesh deleted this post from X after some time. However, by then the screenshot of his post had gone viral. When a fan on X asked him the reason behind deleting the post, he explained the reason.

Venkatesh wrote, “That was a general tweet where I talked about how a person who is corrupt can ruin a lot of good work of his organization and it can be affected on a large scale as well as in any sector. This could have massive implications. Since I was also speaking about BCCI's incompetence regarding tickets in other tweets, it created confusion and was taken out of context. So I removed it. Otherwise, devotees of Ram do not spare anyone in openly speaking by taking the name, Jai Shri Ram.

Venkatesh Prasad clashed with Zubair.
The screen shot of Venkatesh deleting his tweet was shared by Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair. Zubair had posted a post on Saturday, in which he had written – Waiting for the arrival of the BJP MP and his statement that he will tell that this video is misleading? Responding to this, Venkatesh targeted Zubair. He wrote - This is what a serial hate spreader has to say, who has put the lives of many people in danger for his agenda. You are masquerading as a fact checker, it is like terrorists talking about peace. Now post that you need money to survive and ask for donations for your website, there is no shame in making a living by fooling people.

Tehseen Poonawala got angry on Venkatesh's words.
Political analyst Tehseen Poonawala got angry on this tweet of Venkatesh. Tagging Venkatesh Prasad on X on Sunday, he wrote - Dear Venkatesh Prasad, you are a hero to each of us. The universe has blessed you with so much talent! Please live in gratitude, don't be negative towards others, as you have been towards Zubair and celebrate what you have! You are in a position of power. Don't make it a goal, it's not worth it.

Venkatesh replied to Tahseen
God has given abundance to me and has given it to you too. Please consider the context in which this self-proclaimed fact-checker made such a bold statement. In the name of fact-checking, they have already put the lives of many people in danger because of their agenda. They have not learned any lessons yet and perhaps unknowingly you are enabling them to further their agenda. You have also been vocal about your disagreement with the party you are a part of and that requires courage and I respect you for this aspect. I have been vocal in my criticism of the BCCI over World Cup tickets as well as the undue delay in the event. Now show me an example of agenda peddlers like this guy speaking out against his paymasters. Their irresponsibility and mischief have put people's lives in danger and they need to be called to account.

Venkatesh's taunt on Tehseen regarding Nupur.
After this, Tehseen made another tweet and wrote on a fan's question about Nupur Sharma - Brother, if there was one person who stood for Nupur Sharma in public and private, then it was him. I was! Find out from Nupur, I keep inquiring about her too. So please stay calm! Have a nice Sunday. I'm going to play with Jurvan and then have breakfast! Venkatesh picked up this tweet and retweeted it and wrote - Tehseen, despite this you feel that the man is not an agenda seller with low and malicious intentions. Shouldn't such a man be called bad? Irrespective of political party, the standards for fact checkers should not be so low that a mischievous person like him is allowed to continue fooling others.

Venkatesh had sent Aamir to the pavilion

Venkatesh is remembered for the India-Pakistan match of the 1996 World Cup. That was the second quarter-final match of the World Cup between India and Pakistan. In that match, India had scored 287 runs after losing eight wickets in 50 overs and won by 39 runs. In that match, Pakistan's Aamir Sohail had hit a four on Venkatesh's bowling and then showed the bat towards him and said that he will hit a four there again. On the very next ball, Venkatesh clean bowled Aamir and signaled him to return to the pavilion. Pakistan team could score only 248 runs. Venkatesh and Anil Kumble took three wickets each in that match.

Venkatesh's international career
Venkatesh played 33 Tests and 161 ODIs in his international career. He has 96 wickets in Test and 196 wickets in ODI. His best performance in Tests is six wickets for 33 runs, while in ODI his best performance is five wickets for 27 runs. Both these demonstrations are against Pakistan only. Venkatesh took six wickets for 33 runs in the India-Pakistan Chennai Test in 1999. At the same time, Venkatesh took five wickets for 27 runs against Pakistan in the 1999 World Cup. Then he dismissed Saeed Anwar, Salim Malik, Inzamam ul Haq, Azhar Mahmood and Wasim Akram. India won this match by 47 runs. Venkatesh Prasad was the player of the match.
