Former Zimbabwean cricket captain Heath Streak passed away

Former Zimbabwean cricket captain Heath Streak passed away on Sunday in his farm in Matabeleland. He took his last breath at the age of 49. The news of his demise was confirmed by John Rennie, a former Zimbabwean international cricketer and family spokesperson. Rennie said, "Heath passed away early on Sunday at his farm in Matabeleland. He was with his family and loved ones. After a long battle with cancer, he peacefully left us."

Nearly two weeks ago, Streak's former teammate Henry Olonga had provided information about his death on social media. However, both Streak and Olonga later clarified that the news of his death was false, and Olonga apologized for his previous post.

Heath Streak was one of Zimbabwe's greatest cricketers. He took 216 wickets in Test matches and 239 wickets in One-Day Internationals (ODIs). After retiring from international cricket, Streak coached several international teams, including Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, and Indian Premier League (IPL) teams Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Lions. He was the first Zimbabwean cricketer to achieve both 100 Test wickets and 1,000 Test runs. He also achieved the rare feat of scoring 2,000 runs and taking 200 wickets in ODIs.

Streak made his Test and ODI debut in 1993 and was appointed captain of the Zimbabwean cricket team in the 1999-2000 season. His wife, Nadine Streak, wrote on Facebook, "Today, Sunday 3rd September 2023, the love of my life, and the father of my beautiful children, was taken from his home by the angels. He wanted to spend his last day in this house with his family and loved ones. He was full of love and peace and did not venture out alone to the park. Our souls are entwined for eternity Streakie. Until I catch you again."
