According to ESPNcricinfo, former Indian bowler Ajit Agarkar has submitted his application for a position in India's senior men's selection committee. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had advertised the vacancy on June 22 after the resignation of the previous chairman of selectors, Chetan Sharma. Agarkar applied for the role one day before the deadline, making him a strong contender for the position of chairman of selectors. With 26 Tests and 191 ODIs under his belt, Agarkar brings substantial playing experience to the table.
If Agarkar is selected, the panel would have two selectors from the West Zone, with Salil Ankola being the other representative from that region. The remaining three selectors are Shiv Sunder Das, S Sharath, and Subroto Banerjee. It is worth noting that Agarkar recently parted ways with the Delhi Capitals, where he served as part of the coaching staff during the IPL. The team announced this separation on their official Twitter account.
Furthermore, Agarkar had previously served as the chairman of selectors for Mumbai in domestic cricket from 2017 to 2019. However, the entire panel abruptly resigned during that period, as mentioned in the report.
