WTC Final: India has excellent record in knockout matches against Australia, Cummins will be left sweating after seeing the figures

The final of the World Test Championship will be played between India and Australia. The match will be played at the Kennington Oval ground in London from June 7. Both the teams have started preparing for this title match. Although Australia's record against India in Tests is excellent, but when it comes to knockout matches in tournaments with more than five teams, Team India has the upper hand. Knockout match means the match in which the losing team is eliminated from the tournament.

India-Australia record in knockout matches

India and Australia have come face-to-face seven times in knockout matches of tournaments with more than five teams. India has won five of these matches, while Australia has won only two. In such a situation, seeing this record, Pat Cummins and his team will definitely be under pressure. On the other hand, Indian players will get confidence. 

However, most of these matches have been of ODI format and one match of T20 format. The two teams first met in a knockout in the 1994 Austral-Asia Cup. Then India defeated Australia by seven wickets in the semi-finals. After this, in the quarterfinals of the Wills International Cup in 1998, India defeated Australia by 44 runs.

India defeated Australia by 20 runs in the quarterfinals of the 2000 Knockout (Champions) Trophy. In the semi-finals of the 2007 T20 World Cup, India defeated Australia by 15 runs, in the quarter-finals of the 2011 ODI World Cup, India defeated Australia by five wickets. Team India has lost twice in knockout matches. This includes the final of the 2003 ODI World Cup and the semi-final of the 2015 ODI World Cup.

Australia defeated India by 125 runs in the final of the 2003 ODI World Cup and Australia defeated India by 95 runs in the semi-finals of the 2015 ODI World Cup. Now both the teams will be face to face in a knockout match after eight years. However, this is the first time in Tests that both the teams are facing each other in such knockout matches.

Talking about the overall Test record between India and Australia, till now both the teams have come face to face 106 times. Out of this, India has won 32 matches and Australia has won 44 matches. One match has been tied and 29 matches have been drawn. The Indian team has not lost a Test series against Australia since 2016/17. In such a situation, the confidence of Team India would have increased. Out of this, India has won two series in Australia.
