The Bombay High Court has quashed the case registered against a Hyderabad-based IIT graduate accused of posting rape threats on social media against the minor daughter of cricketer Virat Kohli and actress Anushka Sharma. A division bench of Justice AS Gadkari and Justice PD Naik on Monday quashed the charges against Ramnagesh Akubathini after no objection from Kohli's manager Aquilia D'Souza, the complainant in the case. Akbathini, an IIT Hyderabad graduate, was accused of posting objectionable tweets against Kohli's daughter after India lost the T20 World Cup match against Pakistan on October 24, 2021. An FIR was registered in the case on November 8, 2021. After this, the Cyber Crime Cell of Mumbai Police arrested Akubathini on 11 November. A local court granted him bail after nine days. He had moved the High Court in February 2022 seeking quashing of the FIR. He argued in the court that he was a meritorious student and a rank-holder in the JEE (Advanced) exam. He wants to go abroad for a job but the matter is hindering his career. The complainant on Monday filed an affidavit giving consent to dismiss the case. After this the High Court quashed the FIR.
