WPL: Those who used to scold for playing cricket, now they are clapping for them, know the story of Simran Sheikh's struggle

There is a lot of craze among the fans regarding the Women's Premier League (WPL). In its very first season, this league has become a worldwide superhit. This league has also given many new Indian players a chance to shine. Many poor and small town girls including Kiran Navagire and Saika Ishaq have shown their mettle in this league.

The story of struggle has also come to the fore. Simran belongs to Dharavi, Asia's largest slum area located in the country's financial capital Mumbai. 

Those who used to scold, are now encouraging

The 21-year-old UP Warriors middle-order batsman Simran Sheikh has faced a lot of struggle to find her place in the world of cricket. Simran, a resident of Dharavi, one of the largest slums in the world, managed to become a regular part of the UP Warriors team because of her fighting ability.

In her childhood days, she had to listen to scolding and abuses from people for playing cricket in the park, but now whenever she comes on the TV screen, the same people encourage her and clap. Simran's father Zahid Ali has spoken about Simran's struggles.

Zahid said- When my daughter was young, she was interested in playing cricket. Whenever she used to play cricket in the park or on any ground, many people used to scold her and talk a lot, but my daughter ignored all the noise. He focused on cricket and continued to grow. 

Taking up cricket as a career is a tough task for anyone, but Simran is now playing in one of the biggest women's cricket leagues. Her father initially did not believe that she would make it to this point.

Many people supported Simran's family

Zahid said - No, I had not thought so. We are poor people and at that time we were not in a position to help our daughter, but by the grace of almighty she was able to move forward. I just want to say that the respect we are getting today is because of our daughter's skill, hard work and grace of almighty. Many people have supported us.

What did mother say?

Even Simran's mother Akhtari Bano could not believe that her daughter could play at this level. Akhtari said- We did not believe that she would play further. I thank the coach as well as the one above who supported our daughter and us in difficult times.

Simran started playing cricket only after 10th class

Simran dropped out of her studies after class 10th and started playing cricket with whatever money she had left. Now she has made her parents proud and she has become a famous cricket player in India. Simran's mother said- Earlier she was known by our name, but now people recognize us because of Simran. People come and say that she is Simran's mother. It is a proud moment for me.

Simran was nervous in the auction

Akhtari Bano also described the feelings of the family during the Women's Premier League auction. Simran's mother said- We switched on the television on February 13 at 2 pm during the WPL auction and we were waiting for her name to appear. She was worried the whole time, but then suddenly her name came up and my family and even the whole society jumped in excitement. Simran has played four matches so far. She can play in today's match against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
