The Indian team has been selected by the BCCI to play Australia at home on Friday, January 13, 2023 in the first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 Test Series.
Four Test matches between India and Australia are scheduled to begin on February 9 in Nagpur, on February 17 in Delhi, on March 1 in Dharamshala, and on March 9 in Ahmedabad. Three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) between the two teams will take place on March 17 in Mumbai, March 19 in Vishakhapatnam, and March 22 in Chennai.
India currently holds the Border-Gavaskar trophy after defeating Australia in 2017 and winning two consecutive Test series in Australia.
Mitchell Starc will miss the first match of the series when Australia announces its selection for the next Test tour of India in 2023.
While the hosts will be missing their mercurial wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant who is recovering from his car accident and knee surgery, Rohit Sharma will be leading the team for the first time in a Test series against Australia.
KL Rahul will serve as Rohit Sharma's assistant in the leadership role. The hitters named are Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav has also been called up for the Test team.
Ishan Kishan received his first Test call-up, and KS Bharat was selected as the team's wicketkeeper. The spinners chosen are Ravindra Jadeja, Akshar Patal, Kuldeep Yadav, and R Ashwin; Jadeja's availability is contingent upon fitness.

Jasprit Bumrah's failure to make the squad for the first two Tests as he continues his recovery came as a shock to the Indian team. Instead, the pace battery has names like Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, and Jaydev Unadkat.
